Shakshuka

This is such a winner of a recipe, great for a weekend breakfast, lunch or tea. Authentic shakshuka is a popular Middle Eastern and North African dish, made with various fresh herbs and spices. This is our simple version using our own Moroccan Spice Mix.

How to cook

  • 1.Heat a good glug of oil in a pan with a lid
  • 2.Gently fry the onion for 5-10 minutes, or until soft
  • 3.Add in the garlic, pepper and spice mix and fry for another few minutes (add a splash of water if it starts to stick)
  • 4.Add in the tomatoes, sugar and a pinch of salt and pepper
  • 5.Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the peppers are going nice and soft
  • 6.Using the back of a spoon, make 4 wells in the shakshuka and drop the 4 eggs in
  • 7.Cover and cook until the eggs are ready
  • 8.Serve with a hunk of fresh bread, potato wedges or cous cous

  • 1 red onion - finely sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic - crushed
  • 2-3 peppers - sliced
  • 1 tsp Moroccan spice mix
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • Pinch of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
